Plasma profiles in active systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis: Biomarkers and biological implications.

Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SJIA) is a chronic arthritis of children characterized by a combination of arthritis and systemic inflammation. There is usually non-specific laboratory evidence of inflammation at diagnosis but no diagnostic test. Normalized volumes from 89/889 2-D protein spots representing 26 proteins revealed a plasma pattern that distinguishes SJIA flare from quiesce...

Differential monocyte microrna expression profiles in children with active systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis

Introduction Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SJIA) is an autoinflammatory disease of childhood, and the predominant effector cells are mononuclear phagocytes rather than lymphocytes as in autoimmune diseases such as RA. Previous gene expression data has shown that monocytes in SJIA have a novel phenotype with clear proinflammatory activation as well as features of alternative activation...

Leflunomide in systemic onset Juvenile idiopathic arthritis.

Methotrexate, the mainstay of treatment in Juvenile idiopathic arthritis, might not be effective in a few patients of polyarticular and systemic onset juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Use of biologicals like TNF-a blockers, the next line of preferred drugs is constrained by the high cost. We successfully used leflunomide in four patients.

Treatment advances in systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis

Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is an autoinflammatory condition that is distinct from other forms of childhood arthritis. Recently, biologic agents that specifically inhibit the cytokines interleukin (IL)-1 and IL-6 have demonstrated remarkable clinical effectiveness and confirmed the importance of these cytokines in the disease process. Future studies are likely to optimize the c...

R202Q Mutation of Mediterranean Fever Gene in Iranian patients with Systemic-onset Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

Background: Systemic-onset Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (SoJIA) is an autoinflammatory disease with complex genetic trait starts in children less than 16 years of age with fever and cutaneous rash. Despite, the main genetic factors that may play a role in SoJIA have not yet been identified. High level of interleukin-1beta in the blood of SoJIA patients has been reported. The production and sec...
